Summer Camps and Activities for Exceptional Students!

Here is a quick and convenient list of activities your child with special needs can participate in!




Can you believe school will be out in a MONTH?? This year has been flying by and we know how busy schedules are this time of year! To ease the load on you, we wanted compile a list of resources and activities that a child with special needs can participate in this summer! Below you will find a list of organizations in and around the Baton Rouge area:


Gateway Transition Center - comprehensive and intensive programs which are focused on helping young adults on the autism spectrum to be more independent and live a more fulfilled life


Active for Autism Walk - 5K Run/Walk & Fun Fest promotes awareness, acceptance, and inclusion of those affected by autism. This year it will be held May 5th!


AMC Baton Rouge 16 – Sensory Friendly Films – second and fourth Saturday (family-friendly) and Tuesday evenings (mature audiences) of every month.


BREC Inclusive Recreation - programs which consists of individuals with and without disabilities participating in recreation activities in their community. Some of the activities include:

Adult Interactive Days

Various locations

For adults with cognitive and developmental disabilities

Run daily from 10am-noon

Movie Monday

Interactive Room Tuesday

Sports Wednesday

Crafts Thursday

Karaoke Friday


BREC Camp Sunshine - Camp Sunshine is an exclusive summer camp designed for campers with mental and developmental disabilities


GaitWay Therapeutic Horsemanship, Baton Rouge - horseback riding for adults and children with special needs

Courageous Kids Softball and Soccer - exclusive sports leagues designed to accommodate children with all types of special needs


Lions Club Camp - free camp for qualifying children with disabilities


The Arc, Baton Rouge - inclusive recreation programs for those with intellectual and developmental disabilities

Chuck E Cheese Sensory Sundays - sensory friendly experience the first Sunday of every month
